Ontario Team Ready for Nationals
Toronto: June 26th, 2006 - With just one month away, coaches Jim Jennings, Brad Jones, and Deborah Luchetta, along with Mai King and Antonio Terra, are working diligently with Team Ontario in preparation for the NKA's Canadian National Karate Championships which are hosted this year by Karate Newfoundland. Ontario has always been a top challenger at the national level for Karate and our desire to dominate as a team is as powerful as ever.
Jennings happily reports that this year’s team is the best prepared
in recent history and is poised to offer a dynamic show of strength and skill
to the other provinces. This talent has already proven as a formidable force
with Ontario’s medal placements in the illustrious US Open Karate Championship
in Las Vegas, Nevada last April. As the Ontario contingency of Team Canada,
our athletes returned home with 3 gold medals, 4 silvers, and 3 bronzes.
Canada competed among 13 other countries and along with fellow national members
from British Columbia and Quebec, garnered another 3 medals. Karate Ontario
team is looking forward to a repeat performance this July in Newfoundland.
Reports suggest that Ontario’s recent success is due in part to the unprecedented amount of cohesive teamwork between the various committees and administration in support of athlete development. The comprehensive team training programme prepared by Coach Jennings included close collaboration with Karate Ontario’s referee council and technical committee in order to enlighten the team on athlete expectations from the perspective of the judges. Further nutritional consultation was provided by Certified Nutritionist, Julie Carrique who shared with team members a 45 minute presentation on recommended nutritional guidelines during competition and the preparation of meeting weight.
All of us within Karate Ontario recognize that an Ontario domination is not an effortless task. Karate Quebec and Karate BC have always been the impetus for Ontario’s never-ending drive for improvement. This determination, hard work of the athletes, and the desire to win has tied together a strong union within all branches of Karate Ontario that is a prize already larger than any prospect of gold. The members of Team Ontario can feel confident and proud that all of Ontario is with you as our flag is paraded at the 2006 Canadian National Karate Championships.
